Round 5 of the Georgia Off Road Racing Series headed to one of the country’s best motocross tracks – Monster Mountain, located in Tallassee, AL.
During qualifying, I was able to take the top qualifying spot by 4 seconds in our 2014 Polaris RZR XP 1000. The XP1K was absolutely dialed for the long sweeping turns, sand, massive double jumps and big uphills that were part of the well groomed Monster Mountain track.
Blue Torch Fab had the stock-bodied and stock-sprung shocks working perfectly. I also felt like I had the perfect wheel and tire combination with the HiPer dual beadlock wheels wrapped with Dirt Commanders from GBC Motorsports.
After getting out to a good first lap lead during moto 1, everything was going perfectly, until… Bring the car to a screeching halt, one of the lower radiator hoses blew off.
With no harm done, I put the hose back together and the XP was ready for Moto 2.
Unfortunately due to DNF’ing Moto 1, I was stuck with a terrible gate pick for Moto 2. Rounding the first corner in fourth place, I was looking forward to working my way through the pack. However, a few of the drivers made that an easier task by crashing into each other. By the second lap, I was in the lead. In an odd move, three laps into the race, the race was red flagged to allow the broken/tangled drivers to re-enter the race. Oddly enough, that move cost me the overall. Going on to win Moto 2, I was very happy with the weekend and how it all turned out. The two motos averaged together for a 2nd overall, which isn’t bad considering I DNF’ed the first moto. However, if the race had not been red flagged and the racers allowed to re-enter, I would have taken the win. Either way, I had an absolute blast on the giant Monster Mountain track and the GORS staff and racers were great to compete with.
I’m greatly looking forward to GORS returning to Monster Mountain later in 2014.
